The Moped Ministry
Moped Ministry
In March 2009 a few members from our
church went down to the inner city of St. Louis in response
to an add on Craigslist stating that the guy in the city
wanted to trade his moped for a kayak. When our members arrived at his house, to their
surprise, they met a group of people who are fun loving,
living on the fringe and love mopeds and who desperately
need Jesus!
After this first meeting we were
invited to ride in their group moped rally two weeks later! Over 50 people showed up for this rally and some relationships were formed.
After Returning from the rally and
telling “moped” stories, the interest in mopeds grew and so
did our numbers for the First A/G moped group! Our youngest rider is 17 and our oldest rider is 78! We even began to attract riders to our group who are
not attending church anywhere.
Over the summer the Number of our riders increased and we
realized we were a very visible presence in the St. Charles
Area. Every time we stopped at gas stations or restaurants, people would
approach our group and start asking questions about who we
are, where we are from and what we are riding. We realized these chance encounters were God given
divine appointments, and we began to minister and pray with
people on the streets.
During the summer after a Wednesday
night service several church members got out a few mopeds
and rode for a while in the O’Fallon area, what started out
to be a lousy ride because one of the mopeds broke down
ended up being a huge opportunity to minister to someone. While our members were wrenching on the broken moped, a woman came out of the gas station in tears, (while she was
standing in line, she got a phone call telling her that her
husband had cancer) they had the privilege of encouraging
her with all the healing testimonies that we have
encountered here at First A/G O’Fallon and they got to pray
for her and healing for her husband.
There were so many new ministry
opportunities because of hitting the streets with mopeds
that we don’t have room here to tell them all!
To close out the riding season and a
summer of incredible moped ministry opportunities the First
A/G moped group went back to the inner city of St. Louis to
minister to the inner city moped group that sparked this
ministry. They went into the “Moped Fort” that is owned by the inner city
moped group and cook and served an entire meal for the inner
city group, more relationships were built and because of our
moped group originating from a church, they affectionately
named our moped group the “Holy Rollers”, and we ended the
night with a combined group moped ride through the city!
We invite you to become part of the
Holy Rollers Moped Ministry, this is an exciting unusual and
fun ministry that will change your life! (We can help you
find vintage mopeds or scooters if you desire to join!)
